Newton Medical Center (NMC) has named Heather Porter, BSN, ACM-RN, as chief clinical officer, effective July 1, 2017.
Porter will fill the position previously held by Cindy Knoeppel, who will retire this summer.
“Heather continuously dedicates herself to expanding NMC’s reach in our community. She has been integral in the development and success of numerous initiatives, including the community paramedicine program and the Transitional Care Task Force, a collaboration of post-acute care providers,” says Val Gleason, president and chief executive officer of NMC. “Heather’s commitment to the health of this community will serve her well in her new role.”
“This opportunity allows me to take the next step in fulfilling my passion of caring for others,” says Porter. “With the hospital’s vision to be the community’s choice for health care at the forefront, my goal is to ensure patients are provided quality care in the right setting with the right outcome.”
Porter joined Newton Medical Center in 2003 as a medical case manager and then became director of case management in 2006. Most recently, she has served as the hospital’s associate chief clinical officer for population management.
Porter holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State University. She is currently a candidate for dual master’s degrees in nursing and health care administration from the University of Phoenix. Porter is also specially certified as an accredited case manager-registered nurse (ACM-RN).
In addition, Porter serves on boards of the Missouri-Kansas chapter of the American Case Management Association (ACMA), the Newton Substance Abuse Committee and Citizens State Bank. She is also a member of Kansas Insurance Department’s Utilization Review Advisory Committee.
